Joann Lublin

Our Speaker — Joann S. Lublin
Former Management News Editor, The Wall Street Journal

Joann S. Lublin long served as management news editor for The Wall Street Journal.

She worked with reporters to conceptualize and organize coverage of management and workplace issues. She covered corporate governance, executive pay, management recruiting and succession. Her stories on these topics mainly appeared on the front page and Business & Tech section. She still writes a career advice column for the Journal.

Ms. Lublin is also the author of Earning It: Hard-Won Lessons from Trailblazing Women at the Top of the Business World. The book, published in late 2016, reflects interviews with 52 high-level executives, most of whom are experienced public company CEOs.

In July 1971, Ms. Lublin joined the Journal as a reporter in San Francisco and transferred to Chicago in 1973. In 1979, she moved to Washington. Her beats included labor issues and housing and urban affairs. Named news editor of the Journal's London bureau in 1987, she became its deputy bureau chief in 1988.

She transferred to New York in August 1990 as a senior special writer covering management. In August 1992, she became deputy management editor. In July 1993, she created the Journal's "Managing Your Career"column.

In September 1998, Ms. Lublin helped initiate the Journal's "Your Career Matters" page. Her "Your Executive Career" column launched in August 2010 and continues to appear regularly.

In 2018, she won the Lifetime Achievement Award given annually by the Gerald Loeb Awards, the highest honor in business journalism. She was a Loeb finalist in 2007. In 2003, she was a member of a Journal team given the Pulitzer Prize for stories exposing corporate scandals.
