OWA Advisory Groups

The Connections & Enrichment Committee of the OWA is excited to bring a fresh perspective to mentorship programs through the new Advisory Groups! These groups are designed to help OWA members make deeper connections and grow professionally through the business disciplines of Finance, Sales & Marketing, and Professional Development.

OWA members are invited to join one or more of the Advisory Groups that interest them. Each group will meet quarterly and receive monthly updates from their group leader.

We were able to chat with our talented Advisory Group leaders to gain insight on what to expect from this program. Here's what they had to say:

Emilia Flamini

Emilia Flamini (CFO, Luxottica North America) — Finance Group

Considering your career journey, what inspired you to participate as an Advisory Group leader?

My passion for finance. In my 20+ years' experience, I have learned how instrumental finance can be in growing a company and delivering results, and I would like to share some of this perspective and insight with the OWA members who will join me in the Finance Advisory Group!

What excites you the most about the advisory groups?

Being able to help other members grow into stronger leaders thanks to the information, discussions, and networking that this group will offer.

What can members expect from the Finance Group?

To learn how finance can be interesting and, to some extent, even fun. This is something that many will be surprised about.

Paula Blomquist

Paula Blomquist (Chief Marketing & Merchandising Officer, Eyemart Express) — Sales & Marketing Group

Considering your career journey, what inspired you to participate as an Advisory Group leader?

Over the last 30 years, I have learned a ton about relationship building. What to do, and what not to do! Sales and marketing is all about relationship building, it's about trust. So, I thought the Advisory Group would be a great way to share what I have learned, get others to talk about their best practices, and connect with other women on a topic we all have passion for.

What excites you the most about the advisory groups?

I think the advisory groups will provide everyone who participates with a safe place to learn, question, role play, and share. This is what excites me the most. We all need a sounding board and a group that will encourage and challenge us, ultimately making us better at what we do.

What can members expect from the Sales & Marketing Group?

Members can expect to re-visit the fundamentals of sales and marketing and then hear them come to life ideally through real-life examples from the group.

Pamela Capaldi

Pamela Capaldi (Myopia Management Specialist, CooperVision) — Professional Development Group

Considering your career journey, what inspired you to participate as an Advisory Group leader?

I have had the good fortune of many colleagues and friends supporting my career journey to provide interesting opportunities and really unique, fun work. I know how much I appreciated when someone supported me, reached out to me, offered me encouragement — and so I wanted to be able to offer those areas of guidance and support to other OWA members.

What excites you the most about the advisory groups?

This refresh of the OWA "mentoring" program is a great opportunity to adapt to the new world we are working in. There have been so many changes, transitions, and ways we've needed to adapt this year. These groups will offer a safe place to discuss our adaptability, resilience, perseverance, and hopefully our happiest moments of success!

What can members expect from the Professional Development Group?

My hope is that we will find a welcoming place to laugh, share ideas, get creative, and feel the warmth of a supportive community of women. We all need our community to lift us up at times and so my expectation is that as we grow our bonds within our circles, we will all look forward to gathering each quarter.

These groups held their first introductory call in December and will officially start in January 2021. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to connect with similar members of the OWA. For more information and to join an Advisory Group, click here.
