This year at Vision Expo East the OWA asked event attendees to "Tell Us Your #DoMore" pledges — and over 20 items were raffled off to participants who submitted a written quote. We are so inspired!

Here, we share a few #DoMore pledges from our OWA members.

"Find a charity that is close to your heart and commit to donating your time. As a breast cancer survivor, my charity is Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. As a committee member, I help organize the annual walks and speak about screening to everyone I meet at the events."

Gina Haas, Director of Recruiting, Match Eyewear

"Doing more can be viewed from a few, rather opposite, points of view. Digging in to accomplish more personally is something we all do in various ways when assessing an external career move or pursuing a professional growth opportunity with a current employer.

This is healthy (and wise!); we all want to improve and stretch beyond our daily norms. Adjusting the perspective beyond ourselves and reaching out in ways that can truly affect another person is empowering also for everyone involved.

While working for a nonprofit, one of the best parts of my day was helping people see the value of their current skills in terms of another industry. Most people undervalue themselves and are truly surprised when someone sees something more and shows them how to present these as tangible, marketable skills.

I worked with a young man years ago who thought all he did was make biscuits. Truly — he was a Biscuit Maker by title. When we discussed the details, it was uncovered that he was also responsible for managing vendor relationships, inventory control, scheduling the staff, training, and was involved in the interview process.

We had a great meeting and he left with a resume that would work harder for him and a much different point of view of his skills and value.

Considering that scenario in from another point of view — we often don't see the value of what we have to offer to others. We are not just making biscuits — we are mentors, leaders, coaches and students, and we all started somewhere."
