To support the growth of our social media presence, the OWA recently launched a new digital ambassador program. We have partnered with five amazing influencers in the eyecare industry.
This month, we're introducing you to one of them — Jennifer Lyerly, O.D.
She is an optometrist specializing in custom and specialty contact lenses; the director of Contact Lens Services at Triangle Visions Optometry; founder and editor-in-chief of the patient-education optometry blog, Eyedolatry; the cohost of the Defocus Media Podcast, and a new mom-to-be.
Dr. Lyerly jumped into social media in a professional capacity when she started Eyedolatry in 2011. She wanted a way to better educate herself about communicating common ocular issues with patients.
From those early days of blogging, she expanded her online presence onto Facebook and Instagram, helping to build a community of like-minded eyecare providers interested in reaching patients directly online. The community on Instagram, especially, continues to inspire her to branch out into new career specialties and learn more about what she can do as a doctor to truly make a difference in patients' lives.
The OWA is a professional group of women who support and encourage other women in the industry and Dr. Lyerly, a new OWA member, firmly believes in this mission. She urges all OWA members to be part of an online social community in order to create a movement of innovative thinkers and leaders shaping change and moving our profession into a stronger future.
Follow Dr. Lyerly on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, as well as these other women she looks up to on social media:
