This year at Vision Expo East the OWA asked event attendees to "Tell Us Your #DoMore" pledges — and over 20 items were raffled off to participants who submitted a written quote. We are so inspired! Here, we share a few #DoMore pledges from our OWA members.
I was an OWA member for just over a year when I realized that I wanted to #DoMore and connect more with other optical industry women. So, I decided to be more active and joined the Communications Committee and am also working with Erinn Morgan to set up the first OWA Regional Networking event in Denver! I am so excited and by getting more involved I have met some fabulous ladies, dusted off my event planning skills, and put my love for communications to use. My advice — say yes, do more, and you may be surprised by the smile it can put on your face and the rewards it may bring.
My #DoMore is community focused rather than industry focused. I'm the "Team Mom" to my son's high school basketball team, which at their age involves organizing team dinners for away games and organizing other parents for fundraising efforts, etc. And I provide that "mother eye" that helps remind them their actions represent the school and town. (And yes, that sometimes means even making them go back into the gym to clean up their water cups they had strewn under the bench!) I consider it a form of "it takes a village" to raise responsible young adults.
