If you missed the OWA Connection Series event on Emotional Intelligence or EQ you can still watch it on Periscope.

The highly anticipated panel on Emotional Intelligence (or EQ) delivered advice on how EQ has real, tangible results in the workplace. Moderated by Erinn Morgan, Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Director of Eyecare Business Magazine, the panel discussed what exactly EQ is and, more importantly, how they have applied EQ skills in their own professional and personal successes.

According to Travis Bradberry, Ph.D., author of the #1 best-selling book Emotional Intelligence 2.0, EQ is the "other kind of smart". And some believe it's the most important kind of smart — with more of an impact on our own success than IQ. In fact, according to research from TalentSmart, an EQ-centric firm founded by Dr. Bradberry, EQ is responsible for 58% of your job performance.

The panel showed that we need emotional intelligence to turn intention into action, to make informed decisions about the things that matter most to us at work and at home, and to successfully connect to others in productive and nurturing ways. Event attendees left with real, usable examples and EQ strategies for success in work and personal relationships.

The panel also discussed that while IQ is a fixed point that never changes, EQ can definitely be developed and honed with some time and effort. EQ is our ability to recognize and understand emotions in ourselves and others. We can then use this ability to manage our own behavior as well as handle interpersonal relationships.

"Don't be afraid of it; it is about self-management," said panelist Nan Meehan, Vice President of Eyewear at ABB Optical Group. "Take the test in the book. It is an eye-opening experience."
