Every year thousands of vendors and tens of thousands of eye care professionals come together in New York City in March for Vision Expo East; one of the biggest Optical trade shows in the world. It's a great opportunity to learn about new products, get your continuing education credits and meet others in our industry. But with all that there is to see and do, it can be overwhelming.
This year the show opens on Thursday, March 30th for Education and the Exhibits open Friday, March 31st through Sunday, April 2nd. In order to make the most of your visit, take some time now to decide what is most important to you. If catching up on your Continuing Education credits is your priority sign up right away. Many of the classes sell out quickly.
Once your class schedule done, it's time to think about which vendor's booths you most need to visit. Start by thinking about any purchases you will be making this year. VEE is one of the best chances to learn about new equipment and try it out. It is also a chance to shop for new and exclusive frame lines. If the list is long, consider forgoing those vendors with local reps. Make an appointment to see them in your office after the show. Many can extend the show specials for a week or two, so you won't miss out on them.
Once you have your list, begin scheduling appointments in between your CE Classes. It's important to set appointments and keep them, because it is very easy to get caught up in all there is to see and do while you're there. VEE has a website to help you plan ahead, including a show planner and appointment calendar. There's even an App for your smart phone. Visit east.visionexpo.com to download it.
Just because the show closes at 6:00 Friday and Saturday doesn't mean the fun is over for the day. To the contrary, there are a plethora of events and dinners available. Some require invitations and that you RSVP, so be sure you plan ahead.
The Optical Women's Association has a Champagne Breakfast on Thursday, March 30th to celebrate women in leadership and to enjoy hearing from our 2017 honorees. Registration is required, and the deadline to RSVP is March 15th. The OWA also has an Awards Ceremony & Networking event on the evening of Saturday, April 1. It is always a fun and elegant cocktail reception, and attended by a terrific group of women and men. As an invitation-only event, only those with a confirmed RSVP will be admitted to the Awards Ceremony. The deadline to RSVP is also March 15th. For more information visit the events page.
Once all that's done, all that's left is the shopping!
