Last month, the OWA welcomed Liz Segre and Debbie Myres to its board of directors. "The OWA board is thrilled to have both Liz and Debbie take on leadership roles within the organization as they join the OWA board. Both women bring unique skills and experiences to the table that will enhance and strengthen our work of Connecting, Inspiring and Leading women in the optical industry. Welcome Liz and Debbie," Christie Walker, president, Optical Women's Association.
Liz has been involved in eye care journalism for 19 years. In 1999, she became the founding editor of AllAboutVision.com. Liz has been in the industry since 1994 and is the editorial director and webmaster for Access Media Group LLC. In 2011, industry publication Vision Monday named Liz to their annual list of the "Most Influential Women in Optical," citing her role "as a pioneer in providing online consumer education about eye care and eye health."
An OWA member since the beginning of the year, Liz was very instrumental in the OWA's new website design/launch. Additionally, she develops/maintains websites for non-profit organizations involved in AIDS hostel care, homeless animal shelters and feral cat spay/neuter. Liz's passions include skiing, cycling, and photography. She also fosters homeless dogs and help find homes for them.
Debbie started her optical career at Tura Inc. as a sales manager and district manager, and later moved to Marchon Eyewear as a sales manager. In 2005, she joined Pacific Northern, Inc., a leading display manufacturer, to develop a new optical area of business and currently serves as their account executive in optical.
Debbie has been active in the OWA since 2009, participating in webinars, writing articles and volunteering on the Mentoring Committee's sub-committee — Mentor Connector. Away from work, she enjoys trying the newest restaurants in Dallas with her foodie husband, spending time with her children, reading, concerts, plays and travel.
Welcome aboard Liz & Debbie!
